The summer has well and truly gone and the nights are drawing in. Despite the dark and cold there is a spring in our step at the project. We have had a bit of a spruce up …. it all started in August when a group of young people from Amblecote Christian Centre kicked it off by spending some of their social action week painting walls and brightening the place up. Then Heidi from The Yorkshire Building Society in Stourbridge got in touch, she’d been tasked with organising a team challenge for branch managers and she’d heard from Eileen at Dudley CVS that there’s always something that needs doing at South Street! Thanks Eileen! It would have been rude to decline such a generous offer and pass up a great opportunity to give the cafe a face-lift. We set to work by organising a deep clean. Thanks to Hugh and the team at Servicemaster who worked so hard to get everything ready for the Yorkshire Building Society staff to start repainting. The staff had a great day with us as you can see….
The team got a great deal done but it’s a tall order to get everything finished in one day. So we have another couple of thank you’s to make. The first is to Ron who heads up the cafe and the other is to Dean who volunteers in the cafe. They were hoping for a week off whilst the cleaning and painting was done but instead they came in and went the extra mile to get everything finished in time to open as normal the following week. Thanks guys!
It’s not just the premises that got a new look either. The staff team has a new member!!!! We are pleased to announce the appointment of Eden our youth and community apprentice. Eden has only been with us for a few weeks but it already feels like she’s always been with us. She’s taking everything in her stride and getting to know everyone. Here she is with the team sorting out the food from our first harvest donation.
Eden has agreed to be with us for the next year. During that time she’ll be helping in our drop in sessions, supporting Jen with all of the youth sessions including Friday sport and detached work and completing a level 3 youth and community award. ……More to come on that soon!
