Clare’s on Placement at the Brierley Hill Project

Clare has joined us for her University placement 1 day a week. Here are her reflections from her first day….The day began with a walk to house nearby to help a client to move in – after many temporary moves this family has finally found some permanent accommodation. The Project have helped the family to source furniture for their new home and supported them through a very tough time. In the afternoon I saw many people come and go from the drop in, some coming to the foodbank, others wanting to search for jobs and receiving one to one support. Lots of chatting, tea and coffee. The after school Challenge for Change group arrived at 3.45pm. These young people came to chill, play Uno and Pool. It was lovely to be accepted by them and to be invited into the games. In the middle of the session a social experiment video was played which showed challenging behaviour towards a pretty young girl and this was followed by conversations about respect for each other. In my experience as a youth worker it is moments like this that can challenge our own behaviour and inform decisions for life.
