Round-up of the Weekssss – 10th November 2017

Over the last month or so we have continued to work hard to support those most in need. It continues to be a struggle for people with Mental Health issues as the demand for services increases and services struggle to keep up with the demands placed upon them. We are fortunate to have regular visits from Anita Chumber, the Senior Community Development Worker & Prevent Lead for Dudley & Walsall Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, we are so grateful of her support as any help or advice we can access in this area really is invaluable.

It’s been a month of awards, first off Stacey was nominated by Kaye for an outstanding Mentor award and WON!  Stacey was at his daughter’s award ceremony that evening (they’re a talented bunch) so Kaye and I trotted off to accept the award on his behalf.  It’s so well deserved ….congratulations to Stacey.  Kaye wrote such a wonderful testimony that the University of Worcester picked him out for an award from all of the nominees for the Foundation Degree.  Kaye won the outstanding student award herself last year, in the first year of her Foundation Degree, she is an asset to the Project and we are so happy to have her with us whilst she’s on placement.

The second award was In recognition of the contribution to the community in the Dudley Borough. Stacey and Kellie of Little Acorns Playgroup were invited by Mike Wood MP to have a day in London to visit the Houses of Parliament and accept their award. Congratulations to you both.

PLEASE SUPPORT US! – We are taking on the Advent Sleepout Challenge again this year.  It’s the 2nd year we have signed up to raise money for the Church Urban Fund to provide night shelter beds during the cold snap.  It’s a cause close to our hearts here at the BHP and Change, Grow, Live (CGL) volunteers too.  The guys from CGL run the Recovery cafe here at South Street – this fantastic partnership initiative is doing great work and they like us are giving up their comfy beds for the night.  We have already had enquiries from other people in DY5 who are willing to take on the challenge too so if you want to join in please get in touch.  We are taking the challenge on Friday 1st December and we will be kicking things off at 6pm at the South Street cafe where we will be serving hot soup.  You will need to be dressed in layers to keep warm and bring a sleeping bag and mat.  If you would rather support us by sponsoring you can find our fundraising page at https://give.everydayhero.com/uk/brierley-hill-project-sleepout

Finally thanks again to everyone who supports us day in day out with their time and finance.  We really couldn’t do it without you.
