Weekly Round Up Friday 8th July 2016

This week some of our team attended a free introduction to welfare benefits course hosted by the Welfare Rights Service. We know that the Citizen’s Advice Bureau outreach service is under review as Dudley LEA is reducing CAB funding in the Borough. We are trying in some measure to prepare ourselves to help our clients with welfare questions should the worst happen and the service gets cut. Lottery Awards 4 All have funded the pilot service until October/November – of course we are hoping the service will stay at the Project with Paul consistently seeing 4 clients on a Monday afternoon. The case load sometimes involves court proceedings as was the case this week. It was lovely for the support offered by the project and Paul the CAB adviser to be acknowledged in the probation service report and by the court staff and magistrates in session.

Investing in our staff and volunteer training is essential and we are so grateful for this type of high quality training opportunity. We have many talented and knowledgeable people offering their time and this week we had a session together fine tuning our listening skills and secondly brushing up on our drug awareness. Thanks to Samson Ellie and Ronnie for facilitating the training session.

This weeks other memorable events have involved young people. We started with a new set of music production students in our Mic Check session on Wednesday evening they had a great night getting to know one another and getting things ready for the start of their course next week. We’ve also started going in to a local secondary school to provide some 1-2-1 support. We were made very welcome by the Head of Year and we hope this will be beneficial to staff, students and family members.

Now for the sad part… it was the last toddlers session for Kellie this week, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank her for all of her hard work and commitment to the group over the last few years. The good news is that the group should be back again in September as the mum’s are keen for it to continue. Happy holidays everyone… we hope to see you then.
